A day of upsets at junior Tennis

It was a day of upsets at ATP under 14 series played at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts yesterday. In the girls event unseeded Anushka Bhargava who earlier defeated second seed Vaivehi Bhagvart, went on to win the final by beating top seed Sherene Wijesinghe 6-3, 6-3

The biggest upset though happened in the boy’s event when top seed Pal Adugu of India lost to Seyd-naguid 3-6, 6-2,7-6. Third seed Mayur Mohith of India won the final by defeating his unseeded compatriot

Jithmie Jayawickrama of Sri Lanka partnered Sonia Dayal of India to win the girls doubles. In the final Jithmie Jayawickrama(Sri Lanka) and Sonia Dayal(India) beat Veronica Makovey (Australia) and Harshini Reddy(India) 6-1,6-4.

In the first set Veronica Makovey and Harshini Reddy took a 1-0 lead and after this it was one way traffic as Jithmie Jayawickrama and Sonia Dayal took control of the game and won the set 6-1.

After a tooth and nail fight given by Makoyey and Harshini in the second set Jithmie and Sonia came back to win the set and the match 6-4.

In the boys doubles final Apneravanda Muddappa(India) and Prithiv Sivasubramania(India) beat Sameer Pajajape (India) and Parul Verma(India) 3-6, 6-1, and 6-4.
