The tiny Intel processor
The latest processor launched by Intel is so small that more than 2000 of them could fit into the width of a human hair. At 45 nano metres, it is the smallest and most advanced processor released by Intel so far, explained Sharad Parmar, Intel’s Retail and Channel Marketing Manager for Asia Pacific speaking at the launch in Sri Lanka this week.
The processor was introduced to Sri Lanka a week after its international launch, as the Sri Lankan market is also very demanding, Parmar said.
Built by using new transistor formula, it is said to be faster, more eco friendly by being lead-free and save energy use. The company aims to eliminate the inclusion of halogen materials in the year 2008, Parmar said. The processors are the first to use Intel’s Hafnium-based High-k metal gate formula for the hundreds of millions of transistors inside these processors.
These Intel Core 2 Extreme and Xeon processors are also the first to be manufactured on the company’s 45 nano metre manufacturing process, further boosting performance and lowering power consumption. Combining these two advancements with new processor features enables Intel to continue delivering faster and more energy efficient processors that are better for the environment. (LP) |
