No incentive for some teachers

Some schools in Kandy are yet to receive the incentive allowance paid to teachers for unutilized leave for 2006 though other schools and public servants have received the payment.The payments were due to be completed by the end of 2007. Some selected national schools and provincial schools have received the allowance.

A provincial education official said that funds were not available to make the payments, but did not give a date when payments would be made. The affected teachers have appealed to the President and the Education Minister to take action to make the payments as soon as possible.
