According to Sugath Rajapakse, the Manager of the Polonnaruwa Rest House, its most famous guest has been Queen Elizabeth II, who visited the place in 1954 and stayed over at the Queens Suite which is still maintained in top condition to be let out to guests. The new wing of the hotel , the restaurant over looking the Parakrama Samudraya too was built to mark this special occasion and going by the breathtaking view that the restaurant offers, there is no doubt the Queen would have been delighted to have visited the place.
The food served at the restaurant also deserves a special mention. It provides both western and Sri Lankan cuisine for its guests. There are many who stop over at the rest house for a meal while on their visits to Polonnaruwa and enjoy the buffet that is laid out there daily for lunch and dinner.
The place is also famous for weddings and get togethers because of its beautiful location as well a the efficient service of members of its staff.
