Speaking to The Sunday Times FT on the sidelines of a media conference convened last week to announce the 25th anniversary celebrations of the company, Managing Director of Informatics Gamini Wickremasinghe said “the company's record of successes in the IT industry in Sri Lanka is overwhelming. With a varied clientele ranging from government institutions, state and private sector banks and other private sector establishments, Informatics has provided quality solutions that have far exceeded customer expectations over the years. IT solutions provided by the company have covered diverse vertical market segments such as banking and finance, e-governance solutions, hotel, retail, consumer billing, insurance, trade and manufacturing. He disclosed that Informatics has provided front-end and back office solutions to over 350 private and public bank branches and installed over 700 Automated Teller Machines throughout the island thus making Informatics the market leaders in bank branch automation in Sri Lanka. Informatics has also achieved unparalleled success in the implementation of e-Government solutions in the island.
Wickremasinghe said that the company has diversified and grown in stature and it has now several companies engaged in varied fields of information technology and ventured into agriculture as well to fulfill their corporate social responsibility. Informatics Agrotech (Pvt) Ltd. is maintaining a 1000-acre farm at Dehiattakandiya in Mahaweli System C as another pioneering effort of the Informatics Group quite apart from IT and IT education.Whilst battling the harsh arid climate and frequent incursions by elephants and other wild animals, the farm has cashew, coconut, teak, mahogany and crops such as bananas, plantains and pineapple cultivated using the latest technologies in agriculture, It also has a flourishing dairy
Informatics Sales Director, Priyanga Gunasekara said that today Informatics has developed as a group that specializes and provides key services in the areas of software development, and joint venture partnership for off-shore software development. He disclosed that Informatics pioneered the award of foreign IT degrees in Sri Lanka realizing the requirement and demand for quality IT professionals here. Informatics Institute of Technology is now collaborating with the University of Westminster, London and the University of Keele to offer their undergraduate and postgraduate programs (BSc, MSc, PhD) in IT and business to meet identified national needs. Head of the Institute Prof: Alfred Perera said that Informatics is the first and only institution to offer scholarships to deserving students from outstation students to follow undergraduate courses in which more than 400 students have benefited. |
