Be it clothes, shoes or bags, don’t we always wish we could have what’s trendy and unique? Well, wander along the shopping piazza at Galle Face Hotel and you will discover a chic boutique interestingly named Trunk that stocks exclusive styles and designs.
“It’s just like when you open a trunk and peer into it; you see all sorts of valuable items, treasures which you may not be able to find anywhere else,” says Kasunchana Wijeya-Kapilasena.
“We have a range of brands, most of which are exclusive for Trunk that are current and constantly updated. So what you find in this store is the same as what you would find in a country like England,” says Kasunchana who established Trunk a little over four months ago. “We do not deal with stocks of a past season and we get new items regularly,” she adds.
Trunk is home to the stunning jewellery of Amrapali worn by celebrities worldwide. Amrapali has catered to celebrities such as Calvin Klein and even movies like Troy. “90% of their products are one-off items, so it is very rare that two people would end up buying the same necklace or earring,” Kasunchana said. The Amrapali jewellery available at Trunk includes necklaces, matching earrings, pendants and bracelets.
Trunk lays emphasis on design and the products in the store are a blend of traditional and contemporary styles and fine fabric. Mimimango, a British product presents some fine beach and resort wear, while Pink Soda, another brand from the UK radiates the spirit of the modern woman. “Berengere Brooks is another brand from a French designer who uses a lot of fabrics from Africa,” Kasunchana says adding that Mi Mi Tin offers silk, satins and fresh water pearls. Trunk also presents a range of fabrics including cottons, silk and satin from India and Europe under its own label.
The handbags and overnight bags available at the boutique from Herve Chapelier are exclusive to Trunk. “The shoes are Pazzion which is from Singapore. They are mostly leather and there is just a limited quantity of shoes per size,” Kasunchana explained.
Having worked in retail for over 17 years in England, Kasunchana said she started Trunk as she just wanted to do something for herself. While in England she had worked in Selfridges, also in India and Italy as a consultant in retail. Kasunchana was also involved in the revamping of Odel a couple of years ago.
