The Under 21 national snooker championship got underway yesterday at the BSAS headquarters table in Reid Avenue on a low profile. This was due to some of the participants from the 38 entries failing to turn up.
Cueists from the Kandy and Kurunegala districts citing the security situation prevailing in the country had informed that were compelled to pull out. The organizers were able to conduct only four matches from the 13 that were scheduled to be played for the day.
Today the second day’s play will commence from 11.00 a.m. onwards. The round robin matches are due to be completed on February 16. The pre-quarter, quarter the semi finals are slotted to be played on February 17, 18 and 19 with the final set for February 20.

Malfadh Aher (Cue SC) beat Gayan Sameera (RSS) 3/2 (71/61, 41/55, 67/50, 28/47, 61/36). M.S. Mohideen (Breakpoint PP) beat Angelo Coonghe (OAC) 3/0 (60/41, 71/35, 55/41). M. Fahad (MSC) beat D. Daniel (RSS) 3/0 (56/41, 60/32, 54/09). Thariq Ahamed (YMCA) beat M.I. Najimudeen (RSS) 3/1 (61/51, 71/40, 50/60, 65/55). M. Akram (RSS), R. Sadish (RSS), W.S. Madusanka (YMBA), M.A.M. Riyas (MSC), I.A.J. Ahamed (YMCA), M. Irfan (Embassy PP), Ryan Somaratne (OAC), S.L. Udeshika (RSS) and M.I. Najimudeen (RSS) received walk overs as their opponents failed to turn up. |
