‘Digital Cinema for Future Sri Lanka’
The Sinhala Cinema celebrated its 61st anniversary a few weeks ago. But it is observed that the local cinema seems to lag behind the trends of worldwide developments which could be gainfully utilized at least for the survival of our own ailing industry.
Although there was substantial research & development on Digital Cinema by two or three dedicated local individuals, it seems that many an industrial professional were unaware of those. To disseminate knowledge on digital technology and to gainfully employ it for the advancement for the local cinema industry, a presentation on will be held at the Rithma Theatre of the National Film Corporation, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 on Saturday 16th of February 2008 at 9.00 a.m.
The presentation will start with a brief lecture on "Cinema in the Future" by the renowned film maker Mr. Prasanna Vithanage. The main session will be conducted by Mr. Maheel R. Perera who has been deeply involved in the Digital cinema developments worldwide, including the development of the RED Digital Cinema Camera and who is also a life member of the Digital Cinema Society. This presentation would concentrate on Digital Cinema workflow, Digital acquisition - Cameras & formats, RED Digital Cinema camera, Digital Grading, Digital Visual Effects, DTS, Digital Projection, Digital Film restoration and High Dynamic range imaging. The presentation will include screening of sample footage which was created locally and footage shot with RED camera. The UFO Company of India is expected to collaborate by providing a sample Digital Projection of materials prepared in Sri Lanka by D Cinema Networks.
This session will be followed by an open forum. This presentation which is for film Producers, Directors and other technicians, Theatre owners, is organized by D Cinema Networks in collaboration with the National Film Corporation.
