David Pieris ends Ford-link
David Pieris Motor Company Ltd has terminated its long standing dealership agreement with Ford Motor Company, a relationship which has been in existence as far back as the 1950's under the Richard Pieris Group umbrella.
Its Managing Director, Sumith Kumaratunga told The Sunday Times FT that the agreement which was terminated at the end of 2007 was purely a business decision. He added that Ford did not have enough products in their range to appeal to the local market and that the company was primarily focusing on its Bajaj and Chery line of products. Bajaj has a range of three wheelers and motor cycles including the Pulsar, Platina, Avenger, Discover and CT 100. Currently, Bajaj motorcycles are the best selling in the country, officials said. The Chery QQ model is manufactured in China and is described by the company as compact and purposeful, amazingly easy to drive and displays outstanding function and performance. In recent years, Indian and Chinese models are fast overtaking American and European cars including popular Japanese brands. |
