The Kallady Bridge: Don’t kill the singing fish
The Kallady Bridge is to be replaced by a new bridge built with Japanese aid.
It is at this 75-year-old landmark bridge that the romance of Batticaloa as the "Land of the Singing Fish" was born.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to keep this bridge as it is and use it for the ubiquitous bicycles and pedestrian traffic whilst erecting the new bridge alongside.
For, who knows with the "New dawn for the East programme" the singing fish of Batticaloa would once again begin to sing under the bridge!
