Axe falls on JVP strongman
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Parliamentary Group Leader and Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa is to be suspended from the party after the Eastern Provincial polls on May 10. A decision to this effect was taken by the JVP at a Central Committee meeting on March 21.
 
UK proposes HR monitors for Sri Lanka

Britain has suggested that Sri Lanka accept a UN presence on the ground to monitor human rights. Foreign Secretary David Miliband suggested that Britain would like to see such a presence in keeping with the report of UN Human Rights Commissioner Louise Arbour, informed sources said.
