SriLankan receives second global award from Airbus Industrie

SriLankan Airlines is to receive its second global award, from Airbus Industrie, for Operational Excellence among all small airlines that operate the Airbus A340 aircraft.

The airline said in 2004, Airbus presented the national carrier with the global Operational Excellence Award for another type of aircraft – the twin-engined A330.

SriLankan was the first carrier in Asia to operate the wide-bodied long-haul A340-300 aircraft, the first of which it was acquired in August 1994. It now has five A340 aircraft in its all-Airbus fleet.

The award is for a 2-year period from November 2005 to October 2007. It is based on wide-ranging selection criteria which include number of hours flown, number of take-offs, operational interruptions due to maintenance issues, and flight delays.
The award will be presented at Airbus Industrie’s Long Range Technical Symposium, which will take place in Dubai next month.
