Anuruddha off to Cuba

Sri Lanka's Anuruddha Ratnayake the lone boxer to the Beijing Olympics scheduled to get underway in August left for Cuba yesterday evening to undergo a strenuous training programme in preparation for the big battle he is preparing to face.

Anuruddha will be away for one month and accompanying him as the coach is Wasantha Kumara. The training programme has been offered to the boxer by courtesy of the Cuban Ambassador Emma Vent on a request made by ABA boxing chief Dian Gomes who explained to The Sunday Times that apart from his training he has requested to participate in any boxing meet that is being held in Cuba during his training session.

He said Anuruddha on his way back home is scheduled to take part in a boxing tournament in Croatia next month. - MSA
