‘PaththaraGedera’:Comedy in a press

Veteran dramatist, playwright and actor Bandula Vithanage's latest teledrama venture 'Paththara Gedara' is a comedy revolving around a newspaper company and the reporters who work there. Produced by Sunil Ratnayake for Teleview it stars Jayantha Bopearachchi, Ajith Lokuge, Nayana Kumari, Nadee Chandrasekara, Ghananga Gunawardane, Sarath Chandrasekara, Buddhi Wickrama, Vajira Kumari Withanage, Lal Kularatne, Hyacinth Wijeratne and Bandula Withanage himself.

The story is about the head of the newspaper (Bandula Withanage) and his staff of reporters. The two leading characters are Nimal (Jayantha Bopearachchi) and his friend Kabul (Ajith Lokuge ) employed in the same newspaper company while sharing a room in the same boarding. Young and attractive Vajira (Nadee Chandrasekara) is the daughter of the landlady ( Hyacinth Wijeratne ).

She is dreaming of falling in love with Nimal. Her mother encourages this as she wants her daughter to get married to a young and handsome man like Nimal. Kabul encourages Nimal to start an affair with Vajira, if not, at least to pretend to have one. Kabul does this with an ulterior motive; that is to occupy the boarding without a fee if Nimal starts an affair with the daughter of the boarding owner. However at first Nimal objects to this. But later he agrees if only to please his friend.

BMW (Sarath Chandrasekara) is the peon in the newspaper office. He is dangerous character who manaeuvers, schemes by implicating others for his own benefit.

One day Atapattu (Buddhi Wickrama), a departmental head hands him a script to be typed. He accepts this but delays it. Later he organizes a stage drama and invites Atapattu as the chief guest. But on the day of the play Atapattu realizes that it is the same script which was given to BMW for typing that he has used for the drama.

In the meantime Nimal falls in love with Suchitra (Vajira Kumari ). He informs her about his false affair with the daughter of the boarding house. Having heard this Suchitra arranges a new boarding house close to her house for Nimal.

In the meantime Nimal and Kabul who go for a news coverage return after being mobbed. In the technical staff of this twenty episode teledrama; camera direction is Suresh Ratnakeerthi and editor is Asanka Rajapakse.
