Samanali is a young television artiste who presents an historical story in television. Padma, a middle aged woman who sees this young artiste on television is reminded of another person who resembles her exactly. It was Rewathi, a Tamil wife who lived with her husband Ramachandran and who were close family friends twenty years ago. One day Ramachandran makes a sudden visit to Padma's house and she reveals about Samanali and convinces him to meet her.
Samanali lives with Chitra a doctor who is doing private practice after retirement from government practice. Seeing Ramachandran, Chitra recollects her meeting with him a long time ago. It was during a communal riots where Ramachandran was fleeing with his pregnant wife to the North. While running away from rioters through a remote area, Rewathi was in labour pain and Ramachandran who goes in search of a helper finds Chitra who was serving in nearby hospital then. While Chitra is treating Rewathi, Ramachandran has gone in search of a vehicle, Rewathi gives birth to a girl. But Rewathi dies at child birth and by the time Ramachandran who fails to find a vehicle returns, he only finds the dead body of his wife.
However in mysterious circumstances Chitra also loses her three month old daughter. She is clueless as to what has happened to her daughter and brings up Ramachandran's daughter as her own.
Now Ramachandran who comes to know that Samanali is his own daughter, demands Chitra to return her. Yet he does not want to reveal this to Samanali and create a problem.
At the same time Chitra who treats Samanali as her own daughter does not want to give her away.
Meanwhile there are three men waiting to win Samanali's heart. But they are with different motives. One is Ravi, her cousin a graduate in dancing. And they have blessings from both parties.
Second, Luxman, a make up artiste with a widowed sister is waiting to get married to Samanali. He has an ulterior motive. In order to give her sister in marriage again he wants dowry and plans to get Samanali's property for this. His house is also mortgaged for his sister's previous marriage.
The third is Tharindu, Padma's son who is an ardent fan of Samanali and her TV programme. He is one who knows Samanali's real identity. He fears that this would affect Samanali's television programme and he tries to protect her.
And Chitra's brother, Master a generous man who does not know anything about this gives shelter to Ramachandran and looks after him.
Meanwhile Ramachandran and Chitra's fight to get Samanali's parentage is continued.
Who will own the parentage for Samanali at the end? Who will win her heart? What happened to Chitra's daughter?
