‘Sindangana’: A woman with the body and spirit

‘Sidangana’ a complex telefilm on a woman, whose body and soul exists separately, is telecast daily from Monday to Saturday at 8.30 pm on Swarnavahini. Scripted, produced and directed by Dhammika Siriwardena, it revolves around Sandapani, a doctor who faces with a tragic accident and her presence as human and a spirit.

The long list of cast include Roshan Ranawana, Muthu Tharanga, Ruwan Wickremasinghe, Nilanthi Dias, Chithra Warakagoda, Wijeratne Warakagoda, Kingsley Loos, Sriyani Ratnayake, Mahinda Wimalasiri, Rekha Ruchirani, Kumara Thirimadura, Thanuja Dilhani, Gamini Jayalath, Roshana Ondaatje, Sarath Kulanga, Muri Samarasinghe and many others including two child stars Sandali Welikanna and Pubudu Welikanna.

Hailing from a middle class backdrop in a rural village, Sandapani is a doctor who achieved her goal with sheer hard work and dedication. After several years service in rural hospitals she gets an appointment to Colombo. Here she is able to realize the dreams of having her own house. This she does with many difficulties including financial constraints.

One day when returning from her duty she gets a call from her sister and while crossing the road she meets with an accident. Seriously injured Sandapani is admitted to the intensive care unit. Meanwhile Santhush, a young man from a well-to-do family comes to Colombo to do his higher studies while continuing his job. Searching for a place to occupy he finds Sandapani's house with all the facilities he expected to have. One day when he is having his dinner a woman appeared at his door. Inquired by the young man, she fails to reveal her identity. This frightens Santhush and he chases away the woman.

On another day, the woman reappears and informs him that the house belongs to her and asks him to vacate it. She further threatens that she would trouble him if he does not follow her instructions.

However Santhush manages to befriend her. Yet one day when he offers her a drink he finds that she is not a human but a spirit. Scared by this he starts traditional rituals to cast away the spirit wasting a large sum of money. However the woman asks him not to waste his money.

Now, Santhush starts to study the spirits reading various books and stories. However following an advice by his friend, Santhush tries get addicted to alcohol for consolation. But Sandapani prevents him advising not to get used to bad habits.

While going in search of Sandapani's real identity he finds her body which is alive for last six months with the help of a life supporting machine. Is Sandani among the living or dead? Will Santhush be able to realize what is happening? What will happen at the end?
