Cosmic Rays completes 25 years in music

The band 'Cosmic Rays' is one of the oldest Country bands in Sri Lanka, managed by veteran Country singer Tyrone Peiris. 'Cosmic Rays' have been in the Lanka's Western music industry for a while and have entertained many overseas and local crowds day in and day out for the last 25 years.

Having started off as a Country and Western band, we have improved on other styles of music, such as Oldies, reggae, rock, pop, rock 'n roll and Latin American music. Today we are recognized as one of popular dance bands in the city and we have moved or diverted from the specific Country segment' said Tyrone.

'This is due to the trends of the International and National markets. We have to be versatile and being only 'Country' is cut most of our avenues. With new additions, the band sound better than ever before' he added.

During the recent past Cosmic Rays have been mainly catering for weddings, private gigs, home-comings, night-Clubs and dancers due to the varieties of songs they have added to their repertoire.

Band now consist of six members- namely Tyrone Peiris , the Manager and leader (lead vocals), Tony Kuruwita on keyboards/ vocals , Thushantha de Andrews on guitar/ vocals, Suneth Fernando on bass, guitar/ vocals, Dilhan Wisidagama on drums/ vocals and Sidantha Peiris on vocals.

'Cosmic Rays' performs every Saturday at popular Keg Pub at the Excel World, Darley Road, Colombo 10.
