‘Nimal & The Equals’: The latest attraction in the scene
Nimal Jayamanne has been a household name in Sri Lanka since 1988 when the singer gained popularity with his hit song ‘Ranpotathelambuwa’.
Although this song brought him to fame, he had been a western oriented singer for almost two decades, singing with bands such as Gay Lord Revival, Sam the Man, Sand Pipers, Masquerade Catch 22 etc., as the front line singer. Since his mega hit in '88 he was renowned as a singer, who could sing both in English and Sinhala with equal ease.
Today he stands as a legend in Sri Lanka's music scene and still goes on regardless challenging the younger singers with his youthful and vibrant voice. He has travelled the world, entertaining both Sri Lankan and foreign audiences singing in 6 different languages including his mother tongue. His last stint in the Maldives where he sang in three different hotels for ten months from January to December '07, has not only given him more experience in handling a wider audiences and but has given him the opportunity of improving on his repertoire.
He has now teamed up with the Keyboardist Pimal Fernando and the female singer Chamari Morris who are both well known in the Sri Lankan music scene.
Chamari, like Nimal, has toured and entertained in destinations such as Beijing, Dubai, Oman, Doha Italy and the Maldives. She too is a very vibrant singer and has captured the hearts of many with her singing.
Pimal Fernando is a renowned pianist and a keyboardist who has performed widely entertaining the foreign guests in hotels south of Sri Lanka, Negombo and in the 5 star circuits in Colombo. At present he performs twice a week at Trans Asia Hotel as a pianist.
The Trio has been named after Nimal and is called Nimal & The Equals.
They are ready to dish out a variety of songs that will suit lobbies, and functions such as weddings and other private occasions. |
