'Prabhakaran' goes to Europe
Controversy-ridden film, 'Prabhakaran' is on a successful run in Rome and 25 theatres around Europe, the debutant film producer Osmand de Silva told the TV Times.
The producer himself a domicile in Italy for the last two decades revealed this, speaking about the successful run in Italy.
Screening around Europe on April 25 the film has earned 18,000 Euros, the producer Osmand said. Eights copies of the film is now being circulated and shown in different cities in Europe and the film is getting a good response said Mr. de Silva who is involved in promoting the film in Europe now.
Osmand has expressed his interest in joining a nearly Rs. 30 million budget film done by Thusara Peiries when the filmmaker met him in Italy while he was studying cinema there.
"Working abroad we have earned some money and we would like to spend them for a good cause for the country and its art," producer Osmand said when inquiring of his purpose in joining the production. While living in Italy with his family Osmand runs several communication businesses in Italy and makes a regular visit to his homeland.
When inquired about the tragedy faced by the film director Thusara in India, Osmand said that he did not expect such violent reaction from the Indian producers and film artistes. "Whoever directed or produced a film, we believe that it is the right of the public to see them and make judgment on them. The right to see whatever film cannot be suppressed by any political or ethnic parties with vested interests," the debutant producer said.
'Prabhakaran', touted as the first film on the 25-year-old Tamil ethnic conflict delves into the conflict between Sri Lankan security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, highlighting the miseries of the people affected by the conflict.
The key roles in the film are played by Priyankara Ratnayake, Anuruddhika Padukkage, Dasun Madhusanka, Sarath Dikkumbura and Darshan Dharmaraj.
Cinematography is done by Jayanath Gunawardana and art direction is by Sena Mambulage. Make-up by J. Suranimala and edited by Praveen Jayaratne. Assistant director is Donald Jayanath and is scripted and directed by Thushara Peiris. The film is now being screened at the Regal Colombo and 24 other theatres of CEL circuit. |
