Cakes of many designs

Orancy Siriwardene

The exquisite cake designs pictured here are by award winning, professional cake designer Orancy Siriwardene whose exhibition will be on at the National Art Gallery 'East Hall' on May 30, 31 and June 1.

Well known for her unusual cake designs, Orancy will this time display 30 remarkable items based on various themes ranging from wedding( depicting wedding cards, bridesmaids and bridals) to butterflies, orchids and roses among many others.

Demonstrations on the making, decorating and spraying of icing flowers will be held. Visitors will also be given the opportunity to question Orancy on issues related to her craft. The show will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets can be obtained from the entrance.

Orancy who owns the 'Sugar Frill' at Pelawatte says that she designed the tallest cake back in 2003 which measured 15 and 1/2 ft and had 65,000 sugar flowers. A 10 and ½ ft horse carriage and 9 ft tall castle are some of her other noteworthy structures.

This is Orancy's fifth exhibition. "I don't hold exhibitions very often but when I do, I want to give people innovative ideas," she says.
