‘Dr. Zhivago’ at Russian Centre

'Dr. Zhivago', award winning film, will be screened at the Russian Centre in Colombo on Saturday, May 31 at 5.00pm. Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Tom Courteney and Alec Guiness star in 'Doctor Zhivago', a motion picture spectacular from two time Academy Award winning director David Lean.

Based on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize winning novel about the Russian Revolution, the film is both a vast panorama of a nation convulsed by war and the intimate drama of one man's struggle to survive. That man is Zhivag, poet and surgeon, husband and lover - whose war disrupted life touches and alters the lives of many, including Tonya, the gentle woman he marries, and Lara the woman he cannot forget.

Filmed in a sweeping lyrical style that won it the Oscar for best colour cinematography, Dr. Zhivago also earned Oscar for Robert Bolt's screenplay, Maurice Jarre's memorable score art director/set decoration and costume design.
