String of Concerts from MAF

Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) would kick start their activities for the official year 2008/09 with their customary blockbuster musical cum variety shows designed to provide entertainment to the fun loving Moratuwa people. This year they have prepared their year plan to include, 'Down Memory Lane' the Sing-along musical festival with a difference on July 6, Sunday.

Under this plan a Sinhala drama will be staged on August 17 and popular 'Punsanda Paaya', the variety entertainment concert on October, while the annual Musical Talent Contest for the youth has been fixed for February 2009. The full complement of celebrated artistes from the Forum is billed to perform at these mega shows eagerly looked forward to by the music crazy folk from Moratuwa. These are the main events in their year plan as far as entertainment is concerned.

The Moratuwa Arts Forum has now completed 13 years in existence and is embarking on a major project to construct a building of their own as at present they have to go from place to place in holding their regular meetings and also the shows they organize. Their goal is to construct a building sufficient to accommodate a minimum of 600-700 people so that they could then use it for holding their shows and also give out to others for use. They say at present there is no proper hall for anyone to organize any public performance and if this is done it would be a service to the people of Moratuwa. Further, they could use the hall for training the youth on playing musical instruments, dancing etc.

The annual general meeting of the Forum was held on 6th April and chief guest was the well known TV presenter Ariyasiri Vithanage and the Mayor Samanlal Fernando were also in attendance. The President Laksiri Fernando in his speech requested the Mayor to assist them in allocating a land for MAF building project and he, in reply guided them what course of action that they should take in obtaining it. They now look up to the Minister Jeevan Kumaratunge to assist them through the Ministry as they believe that this project, if they achieve in building would definitely be a service to the people of Moratuwa.

MAF also intend appealing to the philanthropists of Moratuwa for assistance and they are even willing to build it in memory of any departed elders of any philanthropist if one could come forward. They intend approaching all friendly commercial establishments to achieve their goal which is a community project by itself.
