PC elections may disrupt A/Level exam

By Chathuri Dissanayake

The Advanced Level examination will begin as scheduled on August 6, but may be temporarily stopped midway due to the North Central and Sambaragamuwa Provincial Council elections, Education Ministry’s secretary N. Bandara said.

The exam is scheduled to be completed on September 1. Meanwhile nominations for the PC elections were being received from Friday and they would close on July 4 . The elections are likely to be held in August.

Examinations Commissioner Anura Edirisinghe said they would only be able to assess the impact the elections would have on the A/Levels and what remedial action could be taken after the exact dates of the elections are announced.

However, Mr. Edirisinghe said in the past examinations have been successfully conducted despite ongoing elections. “We cannot take any legal action against any political party regarding disruptions to the exam. All we can do is to request them to act with responsibility and not conduct any campaigns in the vicinity of examination centres,” he said.
