‘Bids’ for former UK embassy property sent to London

Bids for the former British High Commission property located on Galle Road at Kollupitiya has been sent to London for instructions. After bids for the site concluded last month in which approximately 12 expressions of interest were received, some from overseas parties. Navinda Samarawickreme from Schokman & Samarawickreme, the exclusive marketing agent selected to sell the property by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of Britain, told The Sunday Times FT this week that they are 'still awaiting instructions from London.'

No buyers have yet been selected for this property located on Galle Road at Kollupitiya, a sprawling waterfront site of 434 perches. The property is located in a high security zone opposite Temple Trees, the residence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and also adjoins the American Embassy. The property was valued by Savills Australia, a global real estate service provider, to be worth around Rs. 1 billion but some local real estate agents have said the land could be worth more than double that.
