Colombo stocks ASPI falls before 2,000, first time in more than 2 years

The Colombo All Share Price Index (ASPI) fell below the 2,000 level on Thursday for the first time in more than two years. The last time it fell below this level was at 1,968.89 on January 25, 2006.

Brokers said the ASPI fell to 1,999.95 during early trades on Thursday. The market has been falling in recent months due to a combination of reasons including economic uncertainty and blue chips not doing well.

The ASPI peaked on February 13, 2007 at 3,016.14, its highest so far. .
