Defending singles champion Niluka Karunaratne will go all out make it 8-in-a-row when the 56th Badminton open nationals gets underway on December 18th at the Royal College Sports Complex.
Chandika de Silva who is the women’s singles defending champion will also trying hard to defend her title in the women’s category.
The championship will go on till 21st December.
Last year’s men’s doubles winners are Niluka Karunaratne and Eranga Fernando while Chandika de Silva last years’ singles women’s champion partnered Thilina Jayasinghe who went to Olympics to take away the women’s doubles title last year.There will be gold, silver and bronze medals award for the winner, runners-up and 3rd and 4th places in the championship. The players who are knocked out of the first round will be playing in a plate tournament.
For the Men’s the following events will be played. They are Singles and doubles while the same events will be conducted for women’s. Mixed doubles will be also worked off.
A veteran’s championship will be also on the cards. They are Over 40 men’s singles, over 35 women’s singles. Over 40 men’s doubles and over 35 women’s doubles. There will be a men’s masters over 50 event in the championship.
