The 104th battle of the lovers in Galle between Richmond College and Mahinda Vidyalaya will take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium next weekend.
Fifth-year coloursman Romesh Buddika leads Mahinda while third year Coloursman Yasodha Lanka captains Richmond in this 104th encounter.
One of the oldest big matches in the country has two big hundreds as their highest individual score. In 1939 Sirisena Hettige of Mahinda College scored 155 runs and held a batting record that stood for many a decade till Richmond’s Prasad Kariyawasam topped by one digit in 1972. However the current record is held by Mahinda’s P.H.K.M. Ranasinghe who made a huge 162 in the same game in 1972 and thus diverted the record back to Mahinda.
