Trinity called all the shots but had to be content with a mere first innings lead of 96 in their drawn 93rd Big Match against St.
Anthony’s at Katugastota.
The Lions amassed a massive 293 for 7 and from that time on, the home team was on the back foot, playing catch-up cricket. Shameera Wijesinghe, the Man of the Match, displayed great powers of concentration during his unbeaten 114.
Leggie Akila Jayasundera stood out among the bowlers on both sides. In the course of bagging four wickets he went past 100 wickets for the season.
Little went right for the Antonians - Reyal and Palihakkara - who could have turned tables on the Trinitians, fell cheaply. Only Wickremasekera, Siegertsz and Ekanayake offered some resistance and defiance.
Trinity 293 for 7 dec in 80.2 overs (M. Dickwella 42, S. Wijesuriya 114 n.o, D. Gangoda 52, K. Atugoda 34, R. Jaleel 14, D. Weeraratne 12; S. Palihakkara 2 for 67) and 71 for 6 dec in 24 overs (K.Wimalaweera 19, S. Wijesinghe 27; A. Reyal 3 for 34, S. Palihakkara 2 for 17)
