Commenting on the new situation a police source said that they would be interviewing four more leading athletes on the same charges. He said “Right now we have enough evidence on the matter and we are hoping to interview these athletes very soon in this regard.”

Earlier Prasanna Amerasekera who was a member of the national 4 x 400 national relay squad pleaded guilty of sending Saraswathi Sinnasamy to the United Kingdom on the pretext of her being his spouse in 2005.
Geetha Nandani – a national walking champion and M.G. Lalani Shanthi 400 metre relay team member were also sentenced on sending Mohammed Sanook and Amjana Abdul Latif also the United Kingdom.
According to AASL chief General Palitha Fernando they also will take a stern decision on the erring athletes. He said “We are hoping to convene special committee meeting in this regard at the first given opportunity and there we will decide on how the AASL would reciprocate on the matter”.

It was also revealed in courts that these athletes who were sentenced were only a part of a huge human smuggling racket that has been going on for some time now.
