Three allrounders in Squad - Kapugedera,Dilhara dropped for T20 World cup

By S.R. Pathiravithana

Sri Lanka’s most consistent batsman in the recent past Kumar Sangakkara will lead Sri Lanka for the first time when he leads his team for the first time to part in the second T20 World Cup tournament in England in June.
This is Sri Lanka’s first overseas assignment after their bitter experience in Lahore and the abdication of former skipper Mahela Jayawardena.

The two Lankan stalwarts will occupy the Lankan No 3 and 4 positions after Sanath Jayasuriya pairs off with his new found partner Tillekeratne Dilshan who has become one of the success stories at the current IPL tournament in South Africa.

This means Chamara Kapugedera has failed to secure his position in the Lankan side. The other regular who has failed to keep a date with the selectors is fast bowler Dilhara Fernando.

The selectors also have packed the squad of fifteen with three genuine allrounders in Farveez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews and the new kid in the block Isuru Udana. Along with the mentioned Thilina Thushara Mirando also may be able to get tagged off as an allrounder with his capabilities with the bat.
The two seam bowlers will be Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekera while Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis will be the specialist spin duo. The team is due to leave for England on May 28.
The Squad: Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Muttiah Muralitharan (vice captain), Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardena, Chamara Silva, Jehan Mubarak, Indika de Saram, Angelo Mathews, Farveez Maharoof, Isuru Udana, Thilina Thushara Mirando, Nuwan Kulasekera, Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis. (Subject to Sports Ministry ratification).
