ICC postpone crucial World Cup meeting

Morgan and ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat will attend the meeting, while ICC vice-president Sharad Pawar will take part via a telephone link-up
Next week's International Cricket Council meeting to discuss the hosting of the 2011 World Cup has been rescheduled to allow all relevant parties to attend.

The meeting was called earlier this month after the Pakistan Cricket Board announced they were pursuing legal action against the ICC following their decision to strip the country of its hosting rights.

The meeting was due to be held in Dubai on June 3, but will now take place in London on June 15.
That will allow top officials from the ICC as well as those from the four hosting nations in question - India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan - to attend as it coincides with the World Twenty20 in England.

Last month the ICC announced Pakistan would not host any matches at the 2011 World Cup because of "ongoing security concerns" in the strife-torn nation.

The ICC's decision came after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in March which killed six policeman and a coach driver while also injuring seven of the touring players.

The PCB have, however, questioned the legality of the ICC's executive committee's decision, claiming it was not in their jurisdiction to take away their hosting rights.

The ICC have since written to the PCB to reject that legal claim, however, they have called next month's meeting to try and put the matter to bed.

"I am grateful to everyone for agreeing to come together to work through the ongoing issues surrounding the hosting of matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011," ICC president David Morgan said in a statement.

"I hope that, through discussion, we will be able to reach a resolution to this matter as soon as possible.

"It is a matter that is diverting resources and energy that could be spent elsewhere as, with less than two years to go before the event, we need to be conscious that time is passing.

"The sooner we reach that resolution, the sooner everyone can proceed with the business of concentrating our efforts on working towards a successful event in 2011."

As well as representatives from the four countries, Morgan and ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat will attend the meeting, while ICC vice-president Sharad Pawar will take part via a telephone link-up.
