Obtain a world class Engineering Degree in ICT, Mechatronics, Electronics and Civil
To cater to a long felt need in the field of Engineering education the Faculty of Engineering of South Asian technology and Management (SAITM) offers Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Thailand Engineering undergraduate courses for the first time in Sri Lanka.

AIT being the premier independent postgraduate and research institute in Asia realizing the potential technological advance envisaged in the 21st century, which is widely regarded as the one that belongs to Asia, has initiated three Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc Eng) programmes for the first time in Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka with the view to cater to the massive demand for quality engineers worldwide as well as to promote postgraduate research work at AIT itself. In fact professor N. Rajatheva, a senior academic at AIT visiting SAITM has indicated that their primary aim in introducing AIT courses here is to identify and promote future academics for AIT as postgraduate students from Sri Lanka in the past have excelled in every department at AIT.

For the three ICT group courses, i.e., ICT, Mechatronics and Electronics, the course curriculum are formulated and introduced by the AIT while the laboratory facilities and infrastructure are provided by SAITM. The teaching staff will be a combination of senior academics from the state universities in Sri Lanka and from AIT as visiting faculty. These four year undergraduate courses will be conducted in two phases with the first two years at SAITM, Sri Lanka and the final two years at AIT, Thailand. Those who transfer to AIT for the final phase will be offered MSc and PhD scholarship opportunities depending on their academic performances while job fairs are conducted by the career guidance unit of AIT every six months to promote young graduates to talent scouting multi-national corporations in Europe, US and Asia Pacific region. In keeping with the AIT philosophy of academic excellence and intensive training for their graduates SAITM will be enrolling only a limited number of students for this prestigious course with the intention of turning out high calibre engineers from Sri Lanka.

SAITM also offers a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Civil Engineering in collaboration with a highly reputed university in UK which will lead to graduates getting the opportunity to be members of the Institution of Incorporated Engineers in UK. This three year undergraduate course conducted by professors and senior lecturers from state universities as visiting faculty will follow the curriculum of the UK University. With the degree conferred by the UK university the Sri Lankan young hopefuls can now have a path opened for them to enter into one of the highest paid engineering professions in the world where civil engineers handle multi-billion dollar projects worldwide. Those who wish to transfer to UK will also get the opportunity to do so in the final year at a higher tuition fee.

SAITM has limited the number of places to 20 for Civil engineering on advice from the British university in order to maximize the learning and training opportunities available for them to turn out professionals of the highest calibre.
