Encouraging fare at CDA C’ships

By Shanaka Jayawardana

Chayinika Perera and Kavindu Vishwajith showed excellent form to break two meet records each at the 6th Annual Colombo District Athletic Championship 2009 held at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

The meet organized by the Colombo District Athletic Association (CDAA) had over 1300 participants this year from all over the district, and the interest and enthusiasm shown by the competitors was a heartening sight. A meet of this nature is not only effective for spotting new talent but as a source of competitive experience for promising, up coming athletes.

It was evident that the meet was a success by the number of new meet records set in the first half of the competition. Special mention must me made on Kavindu Vishwajith of Chandraratne Manawasingha Vidyalaya, Boralesgamuwa who set two new meet records in the Under-12 Boys Long Jump and High Jump events and of Chayinika Perera of Kirulapone Sports Club who managed the same feat in the Under-18 Girls Shot Putt and Discus events.
