‘X- treme’ for quality music

By Sanath Weerasuriya

‘X-treme’ is a leading wedding band in Sri Lanka. Yes, it sounds bit odd but the truth is that. ‘Xtreme’ has played in 150 weddings during the past twelve months. Though they are specialized in weddings, it doesn’t mean they do not perform at other functions. ‘Xtreme’ is a fine four piece all-round music providers.

‘We have been performing since 1996 and have played more than 1100 shows in various areas of the country from all five Star hotels to private functions at small restaurants. ‘X-treme’ comprises Kosala Kalubovila (keyboard and vocald and band’s leader), Nilanga Perera (guitar), Nishantha Wijesingha and Irosha Gamage (lead vocalists).

‘We do play at special functions, but weddings are our speciality’ said Kosala who has been performing since 1996 with X-treme. ‘In a wedding, we have to cater to everybody’s needs and wants. Apart from weddings, the boys are geared to take any audience by surprises. We have a set of selected songs which are of fine quality songs to suit the different occasions such as wedding and other gigs’ Kosala said.

‘We assure you that from the beginning to the end, we used to maintain the out-put volume and also giving the best sound quality, in such a way that no one will get disturbed other than enjoying the songs’ he said.

Also they are capable of backing all the leading singers in the scene. ‘We always go as a band and no solo performances of any member. Yet we have to back some artistes, while performing at various concerts. We have a wide range of repertoire to handle any kind of occasion’ Kosala added.

Singing in all three languages is one of the outstanding ability of the group and it is definitely a plus mark for the boys. ‘Xtreme’ is heavily booked for the coming season and they will be performing at a leading resort at the year end dance.

Kosala Kalubowila, pulse of the ‘X-treme’ loves music, travelling, and swimming. Graphic designing makes his leisure time colorful. He had his entire education at Mahanama College. Since his school days he used to work and had an interest to deal with Digital Music by the help of his friend Ranga Jagoda.

After finishing his school life he worked as a keyboard player in several bands and in 1996 he started his own three piece band ‘X-treme’. During his successful 13 years of music life he had been composing music for some ‘trios’ and also composing some popular radio jingles and TV Commercials.

‘A highlight in my music life was when I worked as the producer of “Dialog Kit Challenge” for MTV. His aim is to help singers and bands to record and release their CDs on low budget basis’ he said.
