Schneider Electric Lanka (Pvt) Ltd a fully owned subsidiary of Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, undertook a major initiative recently to educate Sri Lankan entrepreneurs about adopting these latest technologies and products created to upgrade and modernize their operations.

Sajeewa Karunatilaka, Head of Marketing at Schneider Electric Lanka (Pvt) Ltd told the Sunday Times FT that this initiative was aimed at enabling them to comply with international standards. He added that “energy conservation is an important concern in both thermal and electrical energy systems and in the midst of energy being generated by spending foreign exchange, this aspect is a matter to be considered in the context of the country's economy.”

The company has taken an initiative to create an awareness among Sri Lankan entrepreneurs on the importance of energy conservation and on latest technologies and products created to upgrade and modernize their operations. Countrywide seminars are being organised for this purpose. Nine technical seminars were conducted covering critical areas including energy efficiency solutions for Bus Bar Trunking Systems, Motor Control Systems, Lighting Control Systems, etc recently.

These seminars covered seven customer segments-- Architects, Electrical Consultants, Industrial Engineers, Contractors etc. According to Curtis Lim-Tean Fatt, Country Manager, Schneider Electric - Sri Lanka, “through this event we showcased our commitment towards the Sri Lankan market. Today, Sri Lanka is recognized as one of the key countries in Asia with the highest energy cost and this has emerged as a major constraint in its drive to accelerate development.

Hence as the global specialists in energy management, we have taken the responsibility of helping customers to make the most of their energy,” he said. With operations in more than 100 countries, Schneider Electric says it offers integrated solutions across multiple market segments, including leadership positions in energy, infrastructure, industrial process, building automation and data centres networks as well as broad presence in residential applications.
