AAT Incorporation caught up in parliament prorogation

A very unfortunate situation has arisen to the draft Act incorporating the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). The Act is on the Order Paper to be taken up in Parliament but further delayed as the legislature will soon be prorogued.

In the words of Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Trade, Marketing Development who was the chief guest at the AAT Convocation in Colombo last week; there is a strange coincidence, (Balagiridoshaya) after the AAT incorporation is placed on the Order Paper parliament is being prorogued.

AAT, an off-shoot of the ICASL, is now almost a part and parcel of the ICASL where in the AAT Board there are eight members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, including the President of AAT.
Nishan C Fernando, President, ICASL said that once the Act of Incorporation goes through Parliament, AAT would become an independent body corporate, but ICASL would be behind AAT to support and give any assistance.

H.M. Hennayake Bandara, President, AAT said that AAT members have now become a part of the accounting profession in Sri Lanka and they are employed in the private sector as well as public sector. He said that AAT qualification is recognized not only in Sri Lanka but also internationally.
