Moors falter despite Kalavitigoda’s effort

Moors who were invited to take first lease of the wicket by Chilaw Marians skipper Mahela Udawatte collapsed after being in a strong position of 181 for 3 to a score of 260 in their Premier Tier ‘A’ encounter which began at Braybrooke Place Place yesterday.

Despite Shantha Kalavitigoda who came to their rescue with patience knock of 88 which had seven boundaries and two sixes. The late order batting failed miserably. He came to the rescue of the home team who lost their first wicket at eight. This is the final league assignment for both the teams. Chilaw Marians have to record a first inning victory to lay their hands on the league title for the first time.

Whatever the outcome Moors, who are lying last in the points table will be demoted next season. The weather in the next two days is going to play a major role for the Marians to fulfill their ambition.

Lahiru Thirimanne and Sameera de Soysa were in top form as the duo propped up Ragama CC to end day one on 210 for 2 against Saracens SC in the match played at the NCC ground.

Lahiru remained unbeaten on 92 from 142 balls which had ten boundaries and a six with Sameera chipping in with an 86 with six boundaries and three sixes.

Vitharana, Sampath

Half tons by opener Dilshan Vitharana and T.N. Sampath helped Badureliya CC end the first day’s play on 213 for 3 against Colts at the Colts ground.

Vitharana made 67 with 11 boundaries while Sampath cracked an unbeaten 77 inclusive of ten boundaries and three sixes. Vitharana was also involved in two fruitful stands one for the second wicket of 79 runs with Heshan Tilekeratne.
