The first US Regional Accrediting Commission approved International Centre in Sri Lanka
American College of Higher Education is one the leading higher educational institutions in Sri Lanka providing access to American education to Sri Lankan students.
ACHE has assisted more than 1150 students to pursue an American education in Sri Lanka and transfer to various universities in USA as well as other countries.
American College of Higher Education had been working in collaboration with Broward College, Florida , USA for the last 15 years to accomplish this huge task.
As a result of this successful academic collaboration and by satisfying various academic and administrative evaluations, the American College of Higher Education has been approved as an International Centre of Broward College, USA.
This elevation of status would provide a whole lot of benefits to the student population in Sri Lanka.
Prof. Patrick Smith - Faculty Co-coordinator, International Programmes of the Broward College and Mr. Willie Alexander the Registrar of Broward College met the students and parents at the Kandy branch and Colombo office of the American College of Higher Education on April 6 and 7, 2010 respectively.
Prof. Patrick explained to the students and parents about the accreditation, changes and what benefits it would bring to the students and parents.
Some of the benefits highlighted by Prof. Patrick Smith were as follows:
1. Students who enroll for the degree programmes at the American College are simultaneously registered at Broward College and become Broward students.
2. Broward College then issues ID card and pin number as well as a Broward e-mail address to the American College students, carrying the same privileges as students enrolled at Broward, USA.
3. Students can obtain Broward transcript and a Broward degree. The Broward degree is recognized worldwide and all students with an Associate degree from Broward are guaranteed admission to a state university in Florida USA.
4. Students can now transfer to over 4,000 universities and colleges in the USA and other countries, to pursue their higher studies and academic development.
5. Students with good grades may qualify for many scholarships.
6. Students will have access to millions of books, journals, video clips and other resources at the Broward Learning Resource Center as well as at 28 public university libraries in Florida via internet.
7. Students can complete many Broward College Associate degree programmes at the American College. The first 3 Broward Associate degrees to be offered in September 2010 are Accounting Technology, Marketing Management, and Early Childhood Education. Students can also complete the 04 years Broward Bachelor's degree in Supervision and Management at the American College.
9. The enrolled students are taking the same US curriculum (as Florida students) while attending Broward classes in Sri Lanka.
10. All ACHE faculty/Staff are SACS approved to teach and provide instruction in the Broward Programme.
12. ACHE students also benefit from instructions from Broward visiting professors.
13. Students may also join Broward study abroad programmes in the Summer semester and take coursework in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.
Prof. Patrick answered the questions from the parents and students. The registrar Mr. Willie Alexander of the Broward College and the Academic Dean of American College of Higher Education Prof. Sarath Amarasinghe also addressed the gathering.
