Down with horn-tooting bullies behind wheels

Bus drivers and other bullies behind wheels are good at intimidating road users by continuously sounding horns and revving up engines to their roaring maximum to push other vehicles out of their way.

The sustained use of vehicle horns is disturbing and upsetting to road users, including pedestrians. Such road behaviour could also lead to serious but avoidable accidents.

The major offenders are the bus drivers, who use the size of their vehicles and the loud sound of their horns to frighten road users. They also enjoy overtaking other vehicles. Three-wheel drivers and motorcyclists also have this habit of overtaking from the left.

The Police usually turn a blind eye to these twin evils of over-use of vehicle horns and overtaking from the left, despite the serious risks. Fatal accidents are just waiting to happen through such irresponsible road usage.

The loud tooting of horns is a major contributor to noise pollution in the city. It is no exaggeration to say that our road users have gone deaf as a result of all this road noise.
