Parent of two nuns and two priests, Mother was indeed a guiding light

Mrs V. X. B. Fernando

October 8 was a significant day for the sons, daughters and near and dear ones of Gnanasorubi Fernando. The day marked both the 100th birth anniversary and the 25th death anniversary of a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother, who was called to her eternal rest on October 8, 1985.

She was also a loving sister, a dear friend and companion, a good neighbour and a faithful churchgoer. Her life was simple and uncomplicated. To her children, she was a symbol of courage.
She was a devout Christian, concerned about the affairs of the church, despite her many family responsibilities. She taught us to love the church. She made sure the family observed the daily devotions, such as the family rosary and prayers to the Sacred Heart. As a family we went for Holy Mass on Sundays. She was a guiding light.

God blessed our parents with eight children – four girls and four boys. Our mother encouraged us to excel in our education, conduct ourselves properly, and maintain traditional family values.

God blessed our parents with two sons who became diocesan priests – Father Emmanuel and Father Joe, and two daughters who became Apostolic Carmelite sisters – Sr. Dilecta and Sr. Joella. The other children – Rita, Micheline, the late Anton and John – married and brought up happy families. Mummy lived to see the birth of her 14th and last grandchild.

From your children and their families
