Former Riviresa editor passes away

Cyril Seelawimala, a former editor and lyric writer, passed away yesterday at his residence in Kiribathgoda. He was 80 years.

Mr. Seelawimala, born in Sandalankawa, began his journalism career as a freelance writer at the Dawasa newspaper in 1961. He went on to become editor of the Riviresa/Dawasa newspapers published by Independent Newspapers Ltd.

A popular lyric writer, Mr. Seelawimala also conducted radio programmes. He wrote songs for H. R. Jothipala, Victor Ratnayake, Morris Dahanayanka and Latha Walpola, among several others. “Dothin Dothi Jeeven Jeevai”, “Meth Mal Pibidewa”, “Mohen Mulawela” and “Honda Siriyawi Akase” are some of his hits.

The funeral takes place tomorrow at 4.00 pm at the Borella cemetery. His remains are being kept at 222F Mudiyansewatta, Kiribathgoda.
