Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Reminiscence

By Vinu Wijeratne (14 years), Girls’ High School, Kandy

A depressing year of destruction has passed,
A new year, 2011, has dawned at last,
But the disruptive setbacks still are vast,
To my mind rushes, sad
recollections of the past.

A devastating earthquake wrecked our city,
At the same time creating havoc in Haiti,
Millions of innocent people desperately plea,
Many are the nauseating sights, one can see.

Sufferings of orphaned children like me,
And poignant issues you can see,
Epidemics and infections still roam free,
Memories of deaths bring shudders to me.

Millions of property and treasured lives lost,
Which are priceless, we can’t declare the cost,
Bitter, painful memories still are there,
Fatigued victims still live in despair.
