Sailors sink Nandimitra

By T.B. Rahaman

Playing a fast open game Navy cruised through to a comfortable 4 - nil win over Nandimithra SC to take hold of the Unique Trophy in the Premier League Division I soccer final played at the City Football Ground yesterday.

There was no stopping for the Sailors who dominated the game with their speedy and skillful play that left Nandimithra SC team with little ideas on how to counter.

Their forwards in the likes of Thilanka Nandasiri, Lakshitha, Sanjeewa and Pradeep Perera played with sting and understanding. The game was just nine minutes old when Navy scored first. A forward advance by N.H. Perera in the left extreme went up to the line and cross passed to Sanjeewa who was in front of the post to tap the ball into the net.

Navy scored again through centre forward burly Lakshitha who put the finishing touches to a pass sent from the right corner by Pradeep Perera in the 14th minute. Navy scored their third goal again by Lakshitha who was in the goal mouth to pounce on a rebound off the goal keeper Karunarathna’s hands who failed on the first attempt. Navy enjoyed the 3-nil lead at lemons.

Navy scored their fourth goal in the 68th minute when a lob saw Thilaka Nandasiri head the ball into the net.
