Research & CQUniversity Australia

For students interested in pursuing a Research Higher Degree, the journey starts with matching your area of interest with that of a supervisor. CQUniversity Australia has research strengths in social science (including population survey and population health), railway engineering, process engineering, environmental management, sustainable communities intelligent network systems and agricultural research.

A global report released in October 2009 (by Spanish-based SCIMAGO) ranked CQUniversity 672nd in the world in terms of its research performance, collaboration with other universities and impact. Its placement is among the top 10 per cent in the world. The University has a very good reputation for engaging with industry, business, government and community through dedicated research centres and provides high quality research in conjunction with regional and industry partners according to the Australian Universities Quality Agency.

It concentrates its research excellence in three categories: natural resources and sustainability, healthy communities and education research. Natural resources and sustainability research focuses on the industrial and environmental sectors. Healthy communities reflect CQUniversity's expertise in the areas of Health Management and Promotion, Nursing, Exercise Physiology and Occupational Health and Safety and new development in Allied Heath and Medical Science. The University's International Education Research Institute (IERI) and Learning and Teaching Education Research Centre address a wide range of issues faced by the higher education sector, including teaching, curriculum and assessment.

The long-term Research and Innovation vision is for CQUniversity to be Australia's leading university for research achievements and industry partnerships in our priority areas of research. The University will be known for its expertise in and contribution to innovations for and solutions to the issues that confront the resources industries, community health and social viability and education.

To achieve this vision and goals, the University is continuing its process for focusing its researchers and research efforts and increasing the scale of research through the establishment of the two institutes: the Institute for Resource Industries and Sustainability, and the Institute for Health and Social Science Research, and the establishment of two new research centres in the area of education: the International Education Research Centre and the Learning and Teaching Education Research Centre.

CQUniversity's engagement with business and industry means student research can have an immediate impact on and benefit to communities and really make a difference.
