Rotaractors launch ‘Home Sweet Home’

The Rotaract Club of Colombo at the dawn of the new Rotaract year 2010/2011 decided that it was time to make a change, time to give something back on a permanent note and choose to help those at the Jayasekera Home in Wellawatte.

The Jayasekera Home cares for 16 little girls and 7 elders, who are in need of many things. Those who run the home have gone to great lengths to care for those at the home and to make it an actual home to these little ones and elderly people who can’t help themselves.

At the initial phase the Rotaract Clubs of Colombo Millennium City, Colombo East & Colombo West came together last year mainly to colour wash the walls of the room where the children sleep in and focused on giving the place a face-lift.

The day continued with providing the children and the elders at the home, with lunch and more fun activities. Commemorating World Rotaract Week from March 7-13, RCCMC would like to launch the signature project “Home Sweet Home” and hope to do more for the Jayasekera Home in the coming months as the place really needs rebuilding not only in terms of infrastructure but also to make them self sufficient.
