Bustling Pettah online at pettah.lk

The bustle at Pettah, once Sri Lanka’s biggest shopping district, is set to increase online with consumers now able to browse and find sellers of the vast array of products and services.

Available at www.pettah.lk the website is geared to providing access to 1947 products from 63 companies with approximately 30 main categories, its founder inno ventures MD Sakula Wickremasinghe said at a media briefing held in Colombo on Monday.

The project investment incurred amounted to approximately Rs.2 million, which involved getting in touch with the traders considered to be tough as this concept is new. He noted that they were targeting 1000 companies to host on the website and expected an initial hit rate of 100,000.

Having commenced the project about one and a half months back they were keen on going for a quick launch to create awareness in the market.

The website features video interaction, dedicated email, space for feedback and ability to contact the traders and sellers. Currently shoppers can even request for home delivery as carried out by about 10-15 traders in Pettah.

Within three months, Mr Wickremasinghe expects to provide Sri Lankan consumers with the opportunity of doing shopping online on this website with access to a vast number of traders and products. This website is to provide the possibility of giving a different look and perception of Pettah shopping, he said.

With tourists now entering the country it has been observed that there has been an influx of visitors to the Pettah and this website could be helpful to them as well. Mr Wickremasinghe expects this to become a hub space for the Pettah traders to get in touch with the local manufacturers as well as Sri Lankan and overseas customers.
