Wycherley International School is the first Cambridge-registered school in Sri Lanka to offer a total Cambridge education experience from Primary to Secondary level. The first Cambridge Checkpoint examination for the students of Grade 8 was held on April 18, 19 and 20, conducted strictly in the lines of a Public Examination with British Council expertise.

Cambridge Checkpoint, taken at the end of Cambridge Secondary 1 stage, gives comprehensive feedback on learners' progress, helping teachers to tailor learning programmes to improve student performance. The Cambridge Checkpoint examinations for students around 14 years of age are ideal for those beginning courses that lead to the Cambridge O/Level examination.

Cambridge Checkpoint is available in the three "Core subjects" VIZ English, Mathematics and Science. In English, the Checkpoint skills cover Reading, Writing, and Usage, while in Mathematics it covers Number, Algebra and Space. Science encompasses Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There are two papers in each subject, each one approximately an hour long. The tests help to train the students to experience an external examination. All the questions have been tested by Cambridge, to ensure that they are suitable for 14 year olds. The answer scripts are marked by University of Cambridge International Examinations.

The whole process of testing, marking and analysing takes around 4 weeks. Each student will receive a statement of achievement and a report that provides more details about his or her performance. Cambridge Checkpoint scores are good predictors of performance at the Cambridge O/Level examination. In this way University of Cambridge International Examinations helps students to make the most of their educational opportunities. Feedback of this kind is an invaluable source of information to the schools as well as the students in making strategic decisions.

The Principal of Wycherley International School, Mr.Kingsley Jayasinghe, whose school is now an Accredited Cambridge Center opines that the total Cambridge experience offered by Wycherley makes a wonderful platform for progression into Secondary level of Education. He added that Cambridge Teaching Methodology helps students to climb the ladder of success.

Panchalika Kulatunga, Cambridge Schools Development Manager in Sri Lanka, said: "I congratulate the management and Principal of Wycherley International School for choosing to offer Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary 1 programmes. They set the foundation for an academic career and enhance step by step development and growth in a student, preparing them for the next stages of a Cambridge education and beyond."

Andrew Sortwell, Cambridge Regional Manager, South Asia said: "Cambridge Checkpoint helps teachers identify students' strengths and weaknesses in key curriculum areas, so they can direct students' learning and prepare them for further study. I am sure that Wycherley students will benefit from the feedback that Cambridge Checkpoint gives them about their performance."
