ACHE becomes the new test venue for IELTS

American College of Higher Education (ACHE) has recently been recognized and approved by the British Council as a test venue of IELTS to register applicants and conduct IELTS examinations at its language centres in Colombo and Kandy. This agreement between American College of Higher Education and the British Council was ceremonially signed by Mrs. Sherryn Yaseen, the CEO of the ACHE and Mr. Kishore Roy, Country Examinations Manager, British Council on March 10 at the premises of the American College.

American College of Higher Education serves as an International Centre of the Broward College, Florida, USA. Established in 1995 ACHE has grown to be one of the leading higher educational institutes in Sri Lanka delivering academic programmes through its network of six branch campuses located in different provinces of the country. ACHE has been maintaining a long term academic relationship with British Council being a prominent place delivering IELTS training programmes with its US approved English faculty.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international standardized test of English for students whose native language is not English. This test is jointly conducted by the University of Cambridge, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt Ltd. IELTS serves for twofold purposes. First, those students who seek admissions to universities and colleges to pursue their higher education in Britain, USA, Canada, Australia ad New Zealand are expected to prove their English proficiency through IELTS. Second, people who are willing to migrate to other countries for employment purposes where English is the native language are also required to take this test.

On par with the above purposes, IELTS has designed two versions of tests namely,

a. Academic Version and

b. General Training Version

The academic version of IELTS has been designed to test the English proficiency of those who wish to continue their higher studies by enrolling in universities and other higher education institutes. Also professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who seek to either pursue their studies or practise in English speaking countries are also required to test their English proficiency through the academic version of the IELTS.

ACHE students who currently follow the IELTS programme can now register for the IELTS test at the ACHE itself and take the test at their familiar atmospheres in the Dehiwela and Kandy branches. The friendly and efficient staff who enrolled you to follow the IELTS course will assist you to register for the IELTS test and provide a date and time convenient to you.
