Pix by Gemunu Wellage

It was a moving and special celebration. Under the benevolent gaze of a portrait of the doyen of dance in Sri Lanka the legendary Chitrasena, the new generation of dancers of the Chitrasena Kalayathanaya delighted invitees with a special performance to celebrate the 60th birthday of premier dancer Upeka, daughter of Chitrasena and Vajira who has dazzled audiences over the past four decades carrying on the proud tradition of her parents.

Still in step: Upeka joins the students
The young generation of dancers wish Upeka the way they know best, with a dance Upeka gets a hug from Vajira: Her mother and guru.
