Sanath – The shining star

The shining star that lit up
The horizon of both forms of cricket
Over fifteen years ago
Alas! Has bade good bye.
Sanath Jayasuriya is his name
Who has brought luster to the game
Many bowling attacks he did tame
To bring glory and acclaim
From the Southern soil a shining light
Always batted with power and might
To bring spectators great delight.
Has played many scintillating innings That kept us all spellbound
The master blaster in his youthful prime Was cynosure of all eyes in all clime
As he danced down to execute his shots
Runs flowed from his pulsating strokes.
For the way he dispatched the red cherry
Made the bowlers to think and worry
His exploits on the field are so many
All of which are now golden memory.
The maestro when in full flight
Massacred the bowling to everyone’s delight
Many a time proved his batting might
As he lofted the ball out of sight
Endowed with genial temperament
Battled with gusto for everybody’s enjoyment
Generous, humble, simple – fine hallmarks
Avoids and shuns rude and crude remarks
Recipient of many awards and rewards
For his several batting records
Time has come for him to quit
The nation will not forget him one whit
As the batting genius takes a well earned rest
The cricket crazy Lankans wish him the very best.
